Body
To improve the accessibility of videos, the Universities of Wisconsin Kaltura My Media service automatically generates machine-generated captions for all videos after they are added to My Media. These captions typically appear with 30 minutes after the video finishes processing. While most videos get captioned through this automated process, for videos that do not have closed captions, the video owner or co-editor can manually request machine-generated captions.
When to Manually Order Machine-Generated Captions
Videos which meet one of the following criteria will not have automatically-added machine-generated captions:
- Videos added to My Media before December 1, 2021
- YouTube entries added to My Media during 2025
- Videos for which the automatically-added captions have been deleted
For these videos, the video owner or co-editor may manually order machine-generated captions at no cost.
