Kaltura (My Media) is the recommended service for uploading and sharing media (audio and video) in Canvas. This document details methods for uploading a video that was recorded on an iPhone or Android phone to your My Media library so it can be shared in a Canvas page, discussion post, or assignment submission.
Methods for Uploading a Video from Your Smartphone
You can use any of the following three methods to upload a video from your phone to your Kaltura My Media library, which will make it available to you for sharing in Canvas.
Method 1: Use the Kaltura MediaSpace (KMS) GO App
You can install the free Kaltura MediaSpace (KMS) GO app from your smartphone's app store and use it to upload videos from your camera roll to your My Media library. Please reference the guide Kaltura - Kaltura MediaSpace (KMS) GO App for Mobile Devices for information on installing and using the KMS GO app.
Method 2: Use the Kaltura MediaSpace Website
You can also upload a video that you have recorded on your phone by navigating to https://mediaspace.wisconsin.edu on your mobile browser, signing in, and selecting Add New (plus icon) > Media Upload. Method 3: Use a Cloud Storage App to Transfer Video to a Desktop/Laptop Computer
It can be easier to use a desktop or laptop computer to upload a video to your Kaltura My Media library. To transfer your video from your smartphone to a desktop or laptop computer, you can share/upload videos from your phone's camera app to a cloud storage app like OneDrive, iCloud, or Google Drive. Once the video is saved to your cloud storage app, access your cloud storage app from a desktop/laptop computer and download your video file. Sharing a My Media Video in Canvas
After uploading your video, we recommend switching to a desktop or laptop computer to add the video from your My Media library to a Canvas page, discussion post, or assignment submission. Share your video by embedding it with the My Media tool in the Canvas Rich Content Editor or using the HTML embed code, or by copying and pasting the video's share link.
