Requesting a Software Install on Lab Devices

Request Guidelines

NOTE: Ensure that software is not available in the Software Center (Windows) or Self Service (Apple) before submitting a request.

Software Information

  • Provide the name of the software.
  • Specify where to obtain the software (if applicable).
  • Include a URL to the software’s website if available.

Device and Lab Information

  • Provide the GB# of the device(s) where the software will be installed.
  • Indicate when the software is needed by.
  • Include the lab’s name, building, and room number.

Approval Process

NOTE: We require as much notice as possible in case the approval process runs long.

  • All software requests will be directed to the INF team for approval if the software is not listed in the Approved/Unapproved software list.
  • Approved software will be installed by Desktop Admins, who can push software to entire labs as needed.

To check if a software is available in Software Center (Windows) or Self Service (Apple), follow the steps below:

Software Center (Windows)

  • Go to Start (Click the Windows button)
  • Type "Software Center"
  • Look for the software in the list

Self Service (Apple)

  • Press ⌘ + Spacebar
  • Type "Self Service"
  • Look for the software in the list

Service Description
The Service Description field allows you to specify a custom synopsis for use when this service is being displayed in a list and the full body is not being shown. This field is the same as the Short Description.
This article provides guidelines for requesting software installation on University of Wisconsin - Green Bay lab devices, including necessary software and device information, the approval process, and how to check for available software.
Service Visibility
Indicates the lowest level of visibility of the service based on the user's sign-in status.

Note: This doesn't refer to the visibility of the form and doesn't change the actual visibility of the service. External should be the default visibility.
